Former Livingston County Circuit Judge David Reader has a huge fundraising advantage in his attempt to unseat Livingston County Prosecutor William Vailliencourt.
According to campaign finance documents filed on Friday with the Livingston County Clerk’s office, Reader reported raising $105,371, which includes $65,000 of his own money.
Vailliencourt is far behind, raising $20,430.
The two are squaring off in the Republican primary on Aug. 4. The winner takes on Democrat Ragan Lake in the fall.
In addition to the huge donation from his own bank account, Reader received most of his donations from local attorneys. Among the notable donations to Reader’s campaign:
- $2,000 from former Howell mayor and local attorney Bob Parker
- $2,000 from Livingston County public defender Jim Buttrey
- $1,000 from former Livingston County Circuit Judge Daniel Burress

Vailliencourt also received a number of donations from local attorneys, including several assistant prosecutors who work in his office.
Among the notable donations to Vailliencourt’s campaign:
- $1,000 from Corrigan Oil owner Tim Corrigan.
- $500 from former Livingston County Probate Court Judge Carol Hackett-Garagiola.
- $250 from Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Christopher Murray.
