Motorcycle crash in Handy Township sends one to hospital

On Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at approximately 7:21 p.m., deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Stow Road in Handy Township for a crash involving a motorcycle and Jeep Wrangler.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 40-year-old Sidney resident was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Grand River Avenue when he rear ended a 2013 Jeep Wrangler pulling a trailer. The Jeep was operated by a 31-year-old Sidney resident who was stopping for traffic in front of her. The motorcycle operator suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Sparrow Hospital by Livingston County EMS, while the operator of the Jeep was not injured. Grand River Avenue was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

The motorcycle operator was not wearing a helmet, while speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Division.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Fowlerville Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
