Mike Detmer reposts controversial photo, and now he’s defending “Proud Boys” hate group

/

Congressional candidate Mike Detmer just made a horrible decision a million times worse.

Detmer, a Howell resident who is running as a Republican candidate in the 8th Congressional District, has reposted on his Facebook page a controversial photo that shows him ignoring social distancing as he poses with a group of supporters in Howell before Wednesday’s “Operation Gridlock” rally in Lansing.

What made the awful photo even worse is the fact that a supporter of the Proud Boys, a group that’s considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, is seen in the background.

After first claiming that the guy just photobombed him, and that he’s not himself a white supremacist, Detmer is now embracing the Proud Boys. As he reposted the photo today, Detmer wrote:

JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH ENRIQUE TARRIO – NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF PROUD BOYS!
This photo was made controversial because a man wearing a Proud Boys face mask entered the shot. Local media ran stories that I was associated with a “white supremacists” group! Did some research and had a great discussion with a couple top members including Enrique Tarrio (WHO IS NOT WHITE). THEY ARE NOT WHITE SUPREMACISTS NOR RACIST! Some claimed that the FBI deemed them a “hate group”… FALSE!!!
In fact, their membership includes Blacks, Whites, Latinos and Asians! It also includes some gay individuals. Furthermore more, Proud Boys is about protecting our freedoms and has engaged and defended people and organizations from attacks by ANTIFA!
Bottom line…this was an attempt to attack my character! WHMI and every other publication who ran this smear campaign has a ver short time to fix it!!!

You can’t make this up. Detmer is unfit for any elective office and needs to drop out of the race now.

  1. You used Southern Poverty Law Center as a reference? That is a progressive leftist group that considers all conservative and evangelical Christian organizations to be ‘hate groups’.

  2. Mike Detmer seems to have no foresight on how to run a campaign. Why should we trust this guy to hold congressional office?
