LETTER: We need to elect leaders who will denounce chaos, restore integrity

September 11, 2026

“Fear is the tool of the tyrant” – Maureen Comey, federal prosecutor fired by the Justice Department in July 2025

Abdul El-Sayed is not a democratic socialist and does not intend to replace capitalism with socialism. He alone as a junior senator will not have such power and corporate America would never let it happen.

Republicans are marketing fear of socialism and Islamophobia because they can’t talk about other issues. The lousy economy is off-limits or risks the angst of their leader. Republicans can’t talk about open borders because that’s supposedly fixed, even though the fundamental problem of immigration policy has not been addressed. Roe v Wade was overturned, so abortion is no longer a relevant battle. Frequent mass shootings show that guns are abundant, and the Second Amendment is not in danger.

People aren’t really concerned about cultural issues when they live from paycheck to paycheck and can’t make ends meet. The real fear for the upcoming election is affordability and lack of purchasing power. Everyone wants lower prices. MAGA voters took a chance on a convicted felon as president and we’re all paying the price for their victory. I’ll now take my chance on Abdul as a senator, a charismatic epidemiologist and Rhodes scholar, who wants to make capitalism work for everyone, even the MAGA supporters.

Abdul has a clear grasp of corporate power over America and accepts no corporate campaign funds. I like the idea of taking money out of politics and returning power to the people rather than having someone like Elon Musk spend over $200 million dollars to buy an election.

As I see it, Republicans are abandoning capitalism for fascism and oligarchy. Our complacent Republican Congress is allowing this to happen, which is why we need new representation in Washington, D.C. We need to elect leaders who denounce the chaos, cruelty and corruption prevalent with our current politics, who will restore integrity and treat people with dignity, and who will strive for the best version of America.
