Will Lawrence, the Democratic nominee for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, is bringing his campaign series of “unscripted, open-air Q&As” to Pinckney on Friday.
Lawrence will be meeting with people from 6:30-8:30 p.m. as part of Food Truck Fridays on Aug. 21 at the Putnam Township Square in downtown Pinckney.
The event is the first of seven Lawrence has scheduled across the 7th District.
The tour includes a return visit to U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett’s Lansing office on Aug. 24, where Lawrence previously held a pop-up “Ask Me Anything” to protest what he said is Barrett’s lack of in-person constituent events. Accessibility is a core part of Lawrence’s platform, and he held a handful of these pop-up events during the primary, and was the only candidate to hold an in-person town hall.
“Since taking office, Tom Barrett hasn’t held a single unscripted town hall open to the public,” Lawrence said. “If you’re asking people to trust you with this job, you ought to be willing to answer their questions and hear what they have to say. Some of the most important conversations aren’t the easy ones. The most important part of representation isn’t talking — it’s listening.”
