A 45-year-old Howell woman was hospitalized with critical injuries after a two-vehicle crash on M-59/Highland Road and Mallard Pond Drive in Oceola Township.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, the woman was exiting Mallard Pond Drive in a 2010 Ford Focus, and was turning left to head east on Highland Road when she failed to yield for oncoming traffic; she was t-boned by a 57-year-old Howell man in a 2020 Kia Forte heading west.
The woman in the Ford Focus was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor with critical injuries. The man in the Kia Forte and his passenger did not sustain any injuries, and they refused medical treatment.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, and seatbelt use remains under investigation. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS. The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and clean up.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
