Howell man killed in motorcycle crash on M-59 in Oceola Township

A Howell man was killed in a motorcycle/truck accident on M-59 at Hickory Hills Blvd. in Oceola Township at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Brighton Post responded the accident. Initial investigation revealed that a Chevy pickup truck driven by a 55-year-old woman from Howell was waiting to make a left turn from Hickory Hills Blvd. to eastbound M-59.

As she pulled out to make a left turn she struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound on M-59. The driver of the motorcycle, Jon Perry, 62, of Howell was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Perry was wearing a helmet. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were not injured. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the MSP Brighton Post at (810) 227-1051.

  1. Oceola needs to be more aggressive about fixing the Eager road bridge/or adding a traffic light for this subdivision. For our children who attend the nearby Elementary school we have to turn left onto this very busy road and again at the Latson intersection. I will have to do this twice daily several times a week as my daughter cannot ride the bus from home per the transportation dept. This dangerous route could be avoided if we could use Eager road which is and could be much safer.

    • According the LCRC, they’re putting a full light at Eager & Latson.

      • Yes, I agree it is very hard to make a left turn out of Hickory Hills sub. I think there would be many less accidents if we could take the safer route thru Latson rd. in & out of our subdivision, if the Bridge was fixed..
