Horse sustains minor injuries in crash that sends drivers to hospital

August 16, 2026

A H2014 Kia Forte being driven west on Chase Lake Road in Conway Township by a 22-year-old Howell woman was struck by a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a horse trailer being driven by a 57-year-old Howell man heading north on Fowlerville Road at approximately 12:36 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation shows that the woman in the Kia Forte failed to stop at the intersection. She was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by Livingston County EMS in serious condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram was also transported to Sparrow Hospital by Livingston County EMS in stable condition; his passenger, a 66-year-old Fowlerville man, sought medical attention on his own at Sparrow Hospital.

The horse sustained minor injuries and was transported back to the farm. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash. All parties were wearing seat belts. The roadway remained closed for three hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Fowlerville Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
