Health department encourages getting on multiple lists for COVID-19 vaccines

Start

The Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) continues to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments as quickly as possible, but is limited by vaccine supply. Currently, tens of thousands of Livingston County residents are eligible to receive the vaccine.

If you are interested in getting the COVID-19 vaccine, LCHD says your best option is to add your name to multiple waiting lists. You can take action by checking the websites of your primary healthcare provider and local pharmacy for more information about being added to their vaccination waiting list, if applicable.

The health department also recommends you add your name to a local Meijer Pharmacy waiting list. Complete Meijer Pharmacy’s online pre-registration process (found here). If you cannot complete the form online, please call your local Meijer Pharmacy for assistance. You do not need to be a current Meijer Pharmacy client to add your name to their waiting list; you do need to create a new profile with Meijer using the registration link above.

Additional vaccination options will be available soon, according to the LCHD, as the federal government has partnered with 21 national pharmacy chains and independent pharmacy networks to help administer COVID-19 vaccine in communities across the United States as a part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination. The initial phased implementation of this program is due to begin as early as next week, with select retail pharmacies administering COVID-19 vaccine as early as Feb. 11, 2021.

The program will be implemented gradually, based on the available supply of COVID-19 vaccine. Initially, three retail pharmacies in Michigan will receive a limited supply of vaccine to vaccinate eligible individuals throughout the state: Rite-Aid, Meijer, and Cardinal pharmacies in the Upper Peninsula. These three pharmacy chains were chosen based on coverage distribution across the state, and ability to reach socially vulnerable areas and populations at high risk for COVID-19. Once vaccine supply increases, the program will expand the number of participating pharmacy partners to include approximately 40,000 retail pharmacies across the country.

The federal pharmacy partners will administer vaccine to individuals according to state-selected eligibility criteria. Individuals who are eligible for vaccination in Michigan should check out their local pharmacy’s website to find out if vaccine is available. It’s important to know that early on, many local pharmacies may not have vaccine or may have very limited supply. More information about eligible populations will be coming soon.

Timely updates regarding COVID-19 vaccination can be found on the LCHD website.
