Green Oak roundabouts rank as most-dangerous intersection in county

Ten most dangerous intersections in county located in Brighton, Hartland, Howell
September 23, 2026

Who’s surprised that the roundabouts at Lee and Whitmore Lake roads in Green Oak Township rank as both the most-dangerous intersection in Livingston County, as well as No. 5 on the list of most-dangerous roundabouts in Michigan.

We’ve been reporting on the top ranking of the infamous roundabout for years from Michigan Auto Law, which uses data from the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit. Each list uses traffic data from the previous year.

And if you’re wondering about the county’s most dangerous intersections, Michigan Auto Law has compiled a list for that, too.

1. The west roundabout at Lee and Whitmore Lake roads — 82 total crashes, 2 injuries (roundabout)

2. Grand River Avenue at I-96 in Brighton — 35 total crashes, 1 injury

3. M59/Highland Road at U.S. 23 in Hartland Township — 30 total crashes, 1 injury.

4. Grand River Avenue at South Latson Road in Genoa Township — 27 total crashes, 5 injuries

5. Challis Road at Cinema Drive in Brighton — 27 total crashes, 0 injuries

6. North U.S. 23 at Lee Road in Green Oak Township — 25 total crashes, 18 injuries (roundabout)

7. M59/Highland Road at North Old U.S. 23 in Hartland Township, 23 crashes, 0 injuries

8. M59/Highland Road at North Michigan Avenue in Howell, 21 total crashes, 3 injuries

9. Grand River Avenue at North Michigan Avenue East in Howell, 17 total crashes, 5 injuries

10. Grand River Avenue at Whitmore Lake Road in Brighton — 17 total crashes, 3 injuries

NOTE: The list of Livingston County’s most dangerous intersections is the latest data available from 2025 for total crashes at intersections in Michigan. “Intersection” is defined as any road with a traffic signal, four-way stop or roundabout. The crash data encompasses and includes any traffic accident reported that occurred within 200 feet of an intersection including near freeways (and their subsequent on-ramps off-ramps and service streets), divided highways and rural roads.
