While 93% of those in the community without electricity on Monday saw their power restored by 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Livingston County still ranks No. 2 for residents still without power in the wake powerful storms that tore through the area Wednesday and Thursday.

As of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, there were 162 homes and businesses without power — down from 2,553 on Monday — according to Poweroutage.US.
Livingston County ranks between Kent County, which is No. 1 with 181 customers currently without power, and Oakland County, No. 3 with 158 customers without power.
The severe weather that affected Southeast Michigan from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening brought with it damaging winds, large hail, and lots and lots of rain. The National Weather Service reports that the storms “also spawned a brief EF-0 tornado in Lincoln Park and an EF-2 tornado on the east side of Detroit. This was the first confirmed tornado in the city of Detroit since the F2 that impacted the city on July 2, 1997.”
The storms knocked out power to nearly 300,000 customers in Southeast Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service, many areas along and south of M-59 received between 2 and 4 inches of rain, while some areas in Livingston County received over 4 inches by Friday.
While the rainfall led to lots of ponding on roadways, “widespread flooding did not occur due to preceding dry conditions during the late summer.”
