El Arbol, with Wooden Spoon roots, planned for former Yum Yum site

The former Yum Yum Tree in downtown Brighton

Steve Pilon of The Wooden Spoon is set to open a new Mexican eatery before St. Patrick’s Day in the former site of the Yum Yum Tree, the iconic downtown Brighton restaurant at 140 W. Main St. at the Mill Pond, which closed in February.

According to a report on WHMI, the Brighton City Council approved on Nov. 15, 2018, a downtown redevelopment liquor license for El Arbol, which means “The Tree,” a nod to the restaurant’s former name.

El Arbol will seat approximately 50 people, and will also have a carryout window.

Pilon told WHMI that El Arbol’s menu will include several types of tacos, a variety of homemade salsas, carne assada and carnitas, as well as margaritas, high-end tequila, beer and wine.

Pilon will co-own the taqueria with his daughter, Lauren, the current front-of-the-house manager at The Wooden Spoon who will be the general manager of El Arbol.
