CRUST opening in downtown Howell

CRUST – a baking company is planning to open in downtown Howell in early 2027.

The popular bakery, which opened in 2012 in downtown Fenton, will be selling its goods — including some of the best sourdough bread The Livingston Post’s staff has ever tasted — in the former Heart of Michigan building.

Founder and owner Chad Brennan said CRUST purchased the building from Karen and John Wing, who retired after 15 years of selling Michigan products there. (Click here for more information.)

Brennan grew up in Hartland and his wife, Marybeth Brennan, grew up in Fenton, giving them a longstanding connection to Livingston County.

CRUST creates its products in small batches using premium ingredients, and with meticulous care and precision in the baking process.

The flagship CRUST location in Fenton features an artisan bakery, and serves breakfast and lunch options. CRUST has expanded with a booth at the Flint Farmers’ Market, and sells and ships its goods nationwide.

“Our plan is to open a CRUST retail location featuring our full assortment of freshly baked artisan breads, pastries, cakes, pies, and other bakery favorites,” Brennan said. “In addition, we plan to offer a variety of grab-and-go prepared foods, including salads, sandwiches, and other breakfast and lunch options.”

There will also be seating for dining inside.

More information will be available closer to CRUST’s opening, which is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
