Crash sends two to hospitals with injuries

A 78-year-old Howell man was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor with critical injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Grand River Avenue east of Meadowview Drive in Genoa Township that happened at about 4 p.m. Monday.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Howell man was driving a 2017 Buick Enclave and exiting a private drive to head west on Grand River Avenue, and a 28-year-old Howell woman in a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport was heading east on Grand River Avenue. As the man attempted to turn left onto Grand River Avenue, he failed to yield to the woman, and they crashed head on.

While the man was hospitalized with critical injuries, the Howell woman was transported to Trinity Health Brighton with minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, and seat belt use remains under investigation. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Brighton Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS. The roadway remained closed for about two hours for the investigation and clean up.

The accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
