Convery retiring from Howell chamber

After a 28-year career at the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, President Pat Convery is retiring.

“It is a bitter-sweet morning as the Howell Chamber’s Board of Directors announces to the Howell Chamber staff, membership and Howell community the retirement of a great leader and community advocate,” said Jeff Rey of Express Employment Professionals and Howell Chamber board chair.

“This may seem quick, but Pat was clear that she didn’t want to prolong her leaving and we want to respect her wishes,” said Rey. “Both she and the board have the utmost confidence in the chamber staff who will continue their good work and leadership during the transition.”

An internal interim leader has been selected pending final board approval later this month.

Convery notified the chamber’s Executive Board in late fall of 2017 of her plan to retire in early 2018. Those members have begun the process of selecting an executive search firm and forming a search committee to assist the chamber in filling the position.

Convery’s last day at the chamber will be Friday, March 2.

Convery began her career at the Howell Chamber in January 1990, managing the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest and then added communication and marketing responsibilities to her task list. She became president of the organization in January of 2003. As chamber president, Convery spear-headed multiple advocacy and economic development boards and initiatives.

Under her leadership, the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce was named 2016 Outstanding Chamber of the Year in the large chamber category by the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals, as well as 2017 Outstanding Chamber of the Year Finalist. On Jan. 25, 2018, at the 61st Annual Dinner and Citizen of the Year Presentation, Convery was named 2017 Citizen of the Year.

“Livingston County businesses would not be as prosperous nor would the community be as vibrant if it were not for Pat’s leadership” Rey said. “The Howell Chamber staff, board, members and community thank Pat Convery for her commitment to the Howell community and to Livingston County.”
