Beloved Pinckney icon Karl Burg has passed away

September 22, 2026

Pinckney is mourning the loss of its leprechaun.

Karl Burg, a well-known community icon in Pinckney, died this week. The news was shared on Facebook by his friend Rick Beaudin, a Pinckney Realtor who is chairman of the Pinckney Putnam Hamburg Hell Chamber of Commerce.

Burg was best known as the guy who played the leprechaun every year in the Pinckney St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

He wore green and marched in the parade for decades, until poor health forced him to miss the past couple years.

Beyond the parade, Burg was an omnipresent character in Pinckney for many years, frequently showing up at meetings of the Pinckney Village Council to voice his opinion on the issues of the day.

He described himself as a “self-employed handyman,” and came from a large Pinckney family.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
