Event Details

“Nuncrackers” is a “Nunsense” Christmas special, with the sisters producing their own cable Christmas show. The “TV Special” is filled with “Nunsense” humor, some of your favorite carols, a “Secret Santa,” on-air advertisements for the Catholic Home Shopping Network, and an uproarious take on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet. This Christmas special has plenty of songs, dance, comedy, skits, and a special cameo visit from everyone’s favorite nun-puppet, St. Mary Annette. Songs including: “Twelve Days Prior to Christmas,” “Santa Ain’t Comin’ To Our House,” “We Three Kings of Orient Are Us,” and “It’s Better to Give Than To Receive,” to name a few.

“Nuncrackers” is directed by Lynn Wilde, with musical director Dan Mikat and choreography by Annie Yockey, and features plenty of local talent in Angie Dill, Alyssa Friday, Amy Goller, Kelly Hayner, Laura Manderncak, Jon King, Sophia Acevedo, Ava Goble, Ethan Norton and Griffin Peltier.  All seats are reserved and tickets are now on sale at the Brighton Coffeehouse & Theatre, or online at A Wilde Theatre. Unsold tickets will also be available at the door. If you would like an amazing cup of coffee or a sandwich before the show, be at the coffeehouse 30 minutes prior to the performance so the production can start on time.

Event Details

Have you ever wished that you could discuss deep philosophical questions with a group?  If yes, then the Philosophers’ Club is for you! The group will meet from 6:30 – 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month beginning Sept.18 at the Brighton Coffeehouse located at 306 W. Main Street.

The club is sponsored by the Brighton District Library and facilitated by Philip Smith, a retired high school social studies teacher from
Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy (CSPA). Smith used Christopher Phillips’ book, Six Questions of Socrates when he taught Theory of
Knowledge to high school students. The students enjoyed the discussions and wanted more opportunities to deal with higher-level
philosophical questions. As a result of Smith’s experience using Phillips’ book, he decided to launch a Philosophers’ Club. The Club is open to anyone from high school through 100 years of age.

Each month questions will be posed to the group. Those present will vote on one question to discuss. Possible questions could range from “What is an excellent marriage?” to “What is courage?” to “What is good?” The idea for each meeting is for people to discover their own unique finding according to Christopher Phillips, and for participants to leave with more questions than they came with.

Smith said, “This seems to be an interesting time in the history of our country.  Many people don’t have the opportunity to hear what others have to say about issues, and this club will give people the chance to learn about many points of view.  It isn’t designed to solve the world’s problems, but more to give people a chance to ponder questions they may have always wanted to discuss in a friendly atmosphere. ”

Socrates Cafe’s are springing up all around the United States. The concept/design began a few years ago by the author Christopher Phillips, who would meet with people around the world and discuss questions that might have been posed to or by Socrates. For more information about
these cafes, check out the works of Christopher Phillips: Socrates Cafe, Six Questions of Socrates, and Constitution Cafe.

Registration for the Philosophers’ Club is required and begins two weeks prior to each session, but there is no limit to the number of participants. Please register each month by calling 810-229-6571 ext. 227 or going to: http://brightonlibrary.evanced.info/signup/Calendar.
