Three Ore Creek students win Grant Sweet Memorial Essay Contest

The winners of this year’s Grant Sweet Memorial Essay Contest are all Hartland Middle School at Ore Creek students.

Abby Gardner won first place, $300, and American Legion gold medal; Sarah Bragg won second place, $200, and American Legion silver medal; and Logan Berner won third place, $100, and American Legion bronze medal.

Supporters of the contest prizes are the Friends of Cromaine Library, American Legion Austin Moore Post 415, and anonymous donors.

The contest was open to all Livingston County students in grades 7-12. Students had to interview a soldier or veteran and compose a 250-word essay on what service meant/means to the veteran and themselves.

The Cromaine Library hosts this contest in memory of Grant Sweet, a long-time Cromaine employee who cared deeply about the veterans who have served this country and had tremendous respect for their contributions.
