The Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy Middle School Robotics team — the Miners — scored a perfect 5-0 in the FIRST Tech Challenge Howell qualifying event at Howell’s Parker Middle School.
Due to its strong performance, the Miners were the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The team made it to the finals, but lost in the tie-breaker match. In the end, the Miners took second place and won the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award (granted to a team that not only thinks outside the box, but also has the ingenuity and inventiveness to make their designs come to life) and advanced to the State Championship in Battle Creek on Saturday, Dec. 17.
