Content can make or break your social media marketing plan. It is not enough to push information out. If your audience is not engaged your efforts are lost. Your goal in web development is to be relevant and compelling, you are the storyteller and with a carefully crafted tale you can guide your audience to take action.
Here are 5 steps to creating compelling content…quickly!
Define Your Objective
What is it that you want to achieve with your social media marketing? Interaction can look different depending on the social media sites you are working with. Do you want your audience to check in at your location, share comments and posts, click on links to your website or blog? Clearly defining your goals in advance makes for a better plan of action when creating content.
Who is Your Audience?
You know your audience best. Why do they like you, your brand or your product? If you can answer this clearly, your work is almost done. Social media is for being social (while making amazing networks). Your audience wants to connect with you so give them what they want.
Scour the Net
If you are struggling for content, reach out to the web for inspiration. There are a lot of great magazines, blogs and newsworthy sites for your industry. Sign up for RSS feeds from your favorite sites and the content will come to you. RSS feeds provide a lot of insight into the most up-to-date conversations happening in your trade, be a part of the conversation and share the information with your audience.
What is happening in the world today? Is there something that “everyone” is talking about? Think creatively about how to incorporate this into your content. During the Olympics every industry had some way of tying in their service to the games. Think about it, everywhere you went you were reminded of the Olympics, so what kind of tie could you make to your industry?
Bring it Home
You know your objective. You know your audience. You have done your research and made it relevant to today. Now get posting. If you want interaction ask questions, post polls, create videos and share your expertise. That is why you gained an audience. They want to hear from you.
Remember, don’t take things to seriously, have fun and interact and you will be well on your way to social media success.

Thanks LPJ!
Pretty much right on, Candy. Someone who was launching a new Facebook last week was asking me a lot of technical questions. I encouraged them to just focus on quality content and find ways to make people aware of their page.
