Workshop focuses on preventing parenting power struggles

Daniel J Hodgins‘ book is called Boys: Changing the Classroom, Not the Child. He has done workshops and seminars in over 38 states.

He will be presenting a free workshop entitled Developing Power Builders on April 23 at Garden Gate Montessori School in Hartland. The program is for adults who are tired of hearing children say, “You can’t make me.” He suggests that the more opportunities we give children to attain power, the less they will need to create negative behaviors. He recommends that we find ways to celebrate the active child, like allowing them to take some risks. Listening, encouraging, and accepting can replace a climate of defiance with a climate of trust.

Daniel works with educators, parents and other professionals, helping them to understand research-based theory and how to adapt curriculum and environments that support the continued development of children and families. Daniel has 30 years of experience working as a teacher, director, educator and parent including Coordinator of Early Childhood Education at Mott Community College in Flint.

Garden Gate Montessori is located at 2100 Progressive Drive. The workshop will be from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.They request that you call (810) 632-2118 or email ecramer@garden-gatemontessori.com to reserve space before April 16.
