Nostalgic Noel…

November 24, 2010

I love the feel of an old-fashioned Christmas. I love everything about it – Vintage Santas and ornaments, colorful, old-fashioned wrapping papers, painted and glittered pine cones, pretty ribbons, popcorn balls and classic Christmas movies, so when I discovered seven antique typesetter’s trays at the Allegan Antique Market in July I snatched them up quickly. These trays are 17-inches by 18-inches and only have three compartments in them so I thought they might make a great little Vintage Christmas home decor class.

Fast forward to this past weekend when friends and I headed to Clare, Michigan for a retreat at Sunset Shores for a little scrapbooking, a lot of home-cooked comfort foods and some down time. I took one of the trays and a complete collection of Christmas papers and embellishments from BoBunny Press, some found trinkets and treasures and of course, my Tim Holtz stash of products and supplies.

It took most of Friday, all of Saturday and part of Sunday with lots of helpful suggestions from my scrapping friends to pull this one together. Sarah cut the five-inch letters for the Noel on her Cricut and the font type was perfect for the effect I was looking for – it added a nice nostalgic feel. With the addition of Noel in the center it finally felt complete and now was finished in time for a December 11 class offering. This Vintage-style, Christmas-themed wall decor incorporates a variety of bits and pieces, trimmings and techniques and I can’t wait to add it to my other Christmas decorations!
