Rev. Dr. Paul L. Maier, Lutheran Pastor, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Western Michigan University, and author of several popular books on Christianity, will be in Howell on December 4 to explain why the factual events revealing the nativity of Jesus Christ are so important for Christians and how they enhance our celebration of Christmas.
“Information on the life of Jesus is not limited to the New Testament,” says Dr. Maier. “Many important aspects of ‘the greatest story ever told’ come into sharper focus when history, archaeology, geography, and other disciplines shed their light on the Gospel accounts. These findings illuminate a story that can never be embellished, but whose details can be fleshed out and clarified by little-known data and fresh insights.”
Dr Maier promises to share recent discoveries about the Biblical world that
deepen our understanding of Jesus’ nativity, show how the Bible, history, and archaeology intersect and why it matters, and reveal how we can have a more blessed and joyful celebration of Christmas.
Pastor Eric Forss, whose church is hosting the event, explains, “Christian faith and spirituality rest on what God has done, so we want to offer all interested members of our community a friendly opportunity to celebrate Christmas in the true spirit of the Christ-child and His ministry and service. Everyone is welcome, including those who have been away from church for a while and those to whom Jesus is new.”
