Kathleen Zaenger, community leader and 2012 Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, is the 2017 Grand Marshal of the Fantasy of Lights Parade. The Fantasy of Lights is Friday, set for Friday, Nov. 24, in downtown Howell.

Fantasy of Lights Grand Marshals are selected based on their contributions to the Howell community. Zaenger, director of the Howell Carnegie District Library, has not only dedicated 38 years to the library, helping to create the resource gem of Howell, but is also past president of the Michigan Library Association; Howell Rotarian playing an integral part in Tour de Livingston; and a volunteer involved in Walk for Warmth and Bowl for Kids’ Sake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“Kathleen Zaenger is a leader in this community and a respected library professional throughout Michigan,” said Pat Convery, chamber president. “Her innovation, collaboration, knowledge and leadership has created a library that is the envy of many communities in the state, and is a cornerstone of the City of Howell.

“After 38 years at the helm, she is retiring at the end of this year and will be greatly missed. We are delighted to honor her as Grand Marshal of the Fantasy of Lights Parade.”

Awarding Zaenger the 2017 Grand Marshal seems a fitting way to honor her commitment to the Howell community. Look for her in the Grand Marshal float during the Fantasy of Lights Parade and watch as she lights the Christmas Tree in front of the courthouse for Santa and the crowd.

The 34th annual Fantasy of Lights is hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Activities begin at 4 p.m., followed by the Fantasy 5K at 6 p.m., and the start of the parade at 7 p.m. Major sponsor of the Fantasy of Lights is Cobb-Hall Insurance. Supporting sponsors are LOC Federal Credit Union and Citizens Insurance. Champion Automotive Group is the Fantasy 5K Platinum Sponsor. Other sponsors include St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital, Santa and Reindeer Sponsor, The Willows at Howell, Horse & Carriage sponsor and St. Providence Hospital, Enhanced Fantasy 5K Gold Sponsor.
