Howell Public Schools FIRST Lego League teams advance to state champtionship

Two Howell Public Schools FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams are heading to the FLL State Championship later this month. The teams advancing are the Three Fires Elementary Mustache Monsters and the Howell Highlander Robotics Brick Bosses.

The Mustache Monsters qualified by scoring in the top half of the robot run portion of the competition. The Mustache Monsters came in seventh place out of the 23 teams in attendance at their qualifying competition and were one of six teams to advance. The team also received the Project Presentation Award for presenting its project in an exceptionally clear and well thought out manner.

The Brick Bosses qualified to advance by earning the Champion’s Award at their qualifying competition. The Champion’s Award recognizes a team that embodies the FLL experience by fully embracing the organization’s core values while achieving excellence and innovation in both the robot game and project.

While they did not qualify to advance to the state championship, the Highlander Robotics Biking Bots claimed a Robot Design Award and an Innovative Solution Award at their qualifying competition. The Robot Design Award recognizes a team that designs and develops a mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions. The Innovative Solution Award recognizes a team’s solution that is exceptionally well-considered and creative, with good potential to solve the problem researched.

The Mustache Monsters and Brick Bots will both compete at the FLL Michigan State Championship Dec. 16 at Bloomfield Hills High School.
