Gym America hosts ‘Olympic Experience’ on Aug. 9 at Saline High School

Area children will have a chance to feel like an Olympian on Tuesday, Aug. 9, as Gym America sponsors “The Olympic Experience.” The event is free and open to all children and families, and takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Saline High School.

Kids will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of Olympic activities – everything from gymnastics to track to weightlifting – and every participant will receive a free gold medal, which will be presented on an actual medal stand.

Also in attendance will be several Olympic athletes. The children can meet and greet them and get photos taken with a real-life Olympian.OLYMPICS2

“We did the Olympic Experience back in 2012, and the response was tremendous, so we’re very excited to be doing this again,” said Claudia Kretschmer, the owner of Gym America, a gymnastics training facility in Ann Arbor. “The idea is to give kids a taste of what it’s like to be part of the Olympics. We’re bringing all the excitement of the Games to Saline. It’s a great opportunity for kids to have fun, get exercise and learn more about the Olympics, and it’s all totally free.”

The event’s sponsors include AFS, Saline Area Schools, Saline Parks and Recreation, Pittsfield Township Parks and Recreation, Clinton Arts Center and Probility Physical Therapy.

Among the activities on tap:

  • Gymnastics – kids can learn new skills and work on existing ones.
  • Olympic weightlifting.
  • Track and field.
  • Bounce House and Obstacle Course.
  • Soccer.
  • Face Painting.
  • Meet the Olympians.

Following the event, participants can stick around and watch the Olympic gymnastics women’s team final on the big screen.
