Wrapping it up

This is the final league doubleheader of the season for both teams. Brighton can clinch the division with a sweep. “We’ve been talking about it the last week,” Brighton coach Charlie Christner said. “We want to win this thing, but we have to be ready. The kids are excited about the opportunity, and so am I.”

Running wild

Both teams have good speed. Grand Blanc has stolen 41 bases, Brighton 32. The biggest difference between the teams is power: Grand Blanc has 25 extra-base hits for the season, while Brighton has 27 doubles to go with four triples and 12 home runs. “We’ll be paying close attention to those guys,” Christner said. “Our guys do a pretty good job slowing (the running game) down. But we have to definitely be ready for it.”

No makeups

An anticipated matchup with Fowlerville (18-1-2), which was rained out twice, may not be played at all this season. “We’re hoping we both make it through districts and maybe match up before the regionals,” Christner said. “We have two (Wednesday), and two more Friday. Four more next week and six the week after that. So right now, it’s not going to be made up.”

Staying even

Brighton’s three losses have come by four runs, each in the first game of a doubleheader, followed by a win in the nightcap. “We haven’t had a dud of a game,” Christner said. “No game where we’re not there or didn’t play well. We’ve left every site we’ve played at on a positive note.”
