Finding my way back…

I sit in the darkened living room and enjoy a final evening with a glass of wine and the soft glow from my Christmas tree. This was a time I cherished when the kids were young and tucked in their beds for the night – my time, quiet time – just me and tree.  Those times are often sprinkled with memories of my childhood at Christmastime (as the oldest of eight) and of my children as their excitement bubbled over on Christmas morning and I miss that – at times.

My children are older now and one has moved away to the West Coast so our Christmas holidays are quieter than they used to be. What I can’t figure out though – if our holiday is so quiet why can’t I get anything done on time!

I have never felt as far behind as I did this year and will not let it happen again. I vow to complete scrapbooks for my three children in 2011. Scrapbooking was a hobby I really enjoyed prior to discovering altered arts and I’ve gotten away from it and am determined to find my way back. Telling stories with photos and creating all those Scrapped Treasures for my children is something I feel is important.

My goal is one layout a week and it starts with this one for my daughter. I kept it simple by using a page kit from Basic Grey. You don’t always have to be creative – simply follow the directions that come with the kit and add photos! I did dress it up a bit by inking all my paper and photo edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink and glitzed up some of the embellishments with Stickles. Both products are from Ranger Industries and give the layout a finishing, personal touch. My journaling was done in Word and printed on a clear mailing label. I love these because I can print it legibly on the computer and also check for spelling errors then just peel and stick!

So there you have it – the first of my weekly layouts!
