On Wednesday Jan. 9, 2013, at approximately 7 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to the southbound US 23 off ramp at Center Road for a two vehicle injury crash.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that 47 year old Michael Herrell of Flint was exiting the freeway in a 1997 Chevrolet S10 when he lost control on icy roads. The pickup struck the rear of a 2003 Hyundai 53 foot semi-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the off ramp. The trailer was being pulled by a 2004 International tractor owned and operated by L & B Cartage out of Saginaw, Michigan.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, 51 year old Melvin Roe of Rhodes, Michigan was not injured in the crash and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by personnel from the Fenton City Fire Department, Livingston County EMS and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division. The southbound exit ramp to Center Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while deputies investigated the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
