The Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Middle School Miners FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team has qualified to attend the Iowa Super Regional competition. The team won two qualifying FTC competitions, one in Mason, Mich., on Nov. 11, and the other in Big Rapids, Mich., on Dec. 9, when the team also earned the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award for its dynamic robot design. It was through the success at the Mason qualifier that the Miners earned a spot at the FIRST in Michigan State Championship.
On Dec. 16, the Miners attended the FIM FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. They were 4-1 in qualifying matches and the No. 1 pick of the No. 1 alliance. The team made it to the finals in the Edison Division, but was eliminated in that round; however, the team qualified for the Iowa Super Regional that will be held Cedar Rapids in March, one of 19 teams of the 96 at the FIM State Championship to do so.
