Business Spotlight: The Livingston Post
While there are plenty of similarities between the two websites, the biggest difference is that The Livingston Post is crafted for growth.
This is an exciting time to be launching a new digital venture. Print publications, suffering from declining circulation and super-bloated overhead, see paywalls for online information as the wave of the future, a way to maintain their outmoded business model.
I am no corporate genius (for which I am quite thankful), and I struggle to understand how it makes sense to charge for content on the World Wide Web, which is supposed to liberate information for the good of humanity.
But that’s not my battle to fight. All I can do is work hard to deliver a great local website and ask for your support.
I can’t adequately explain how excited I am about this new venture. The Livingston Post is all shiny and new; it sports a great logo — designed by the wonderful Susan Pominville — that captures well the conversation she and I had a couple months ago about my plans, hopes and dreams for this new site.
The site’s name also better reflects its essence. On the Internet, we “post,” not “talk,” so the name reflects the site’s core mission and mode of operation.
The name also reflects the site’s attitude and ambition, which is to grow into a robust online publication. Delivering the best in community news and information was what I did for nearly two decades at the local paper. It’s what I know. It’s what I am good at. Now, it’s what I’ll be doing as The Livingston Post embarks on its journey to grow.
To that end, The Livingston Post is leaner and sleeker with more bells and whistles; it’s what happens when technology and time work together for the good of the online community.
The framework is highly visual; it elevates the work of writers and truly honors images. It better handles videos and slideshows, too, sporting its own multimedia section.
You’ll also really, really like The Livingston Post’s new calendar, which I think is the coolest local digital calendar around. Be sure to check it out.
We intend to continue delivering you the work of the best local writers. We plan to grow this site to provide more news for readers and effective advertising opportunities for local businesses. And we’re hoping that you will continue being part of it all.
I am proud that The Livingston Post is local and independent, like the scrappy community publications of yore. I am thrilled its sunshine isn’t obscured by a cloud of bloated corporate interests. I am excited to be embarking on this exciting journey.
