CANTON — Courtney Casper of Brighton won the Division 1 all-around championship at the MHSAA state individual gymnastics meet at Plymouth High School on Saturday.

Casper took first place outright in the parallel bars and floor exercise and tied teammate Hannah Bracken for first in the vault.

Howell’s Alyssa Walker led the Highlanders, finishing second on the beam and fourth on vault and bars. She finished second overall in the Division 2 all-around.

Brighton gymnasts also placed well. Bracken was 10th on the floor exercise, and ninth on all-around. Sarah Mossett placed eighth on beam. Maddie Vernon placed seventh on floor, and was 10th all-around.

Howell’s Taylor Gillespie placed third on vault, 10th on bars, and fifth all-around in Division 2.

The individual meet was held the day after Brighton placed third in the state team meet, also at Plymouth High School. Howell finished seventh.
